The Very Rev. Frank F. Limehouse, III
Dean

Frank is a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina. In 1966 he graduated from Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a B.A. in English and for the next twenty years worked in his family's third-generation clothing business in Orangeburg.

Frank heard the word that would ultimately convert him to Christianity on the ninth hole of a golf course. He left home to pursue ordination in the Episcopal Church, receiving his M.Div. degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He was ordained deacon by Bishop FitzSimons Allison in 1989, and was ordained priest by Bishop Edward Salmon in 1990. He served as assistant rector at St. James' Church, Charleston, South Carolina, from 1989 to 1991, and as rector of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Hartsville, South Carolina, from 1991 to 1994. He was rector of St. Helena's Episcopal Church in Beaufort, South Carolina, from 1995 to 2005; and from there he accepted a call to the Cathedral Church of the Advent as Dean. Frank is an avid golfer and runner. He is married to Jane Mewborne Limehouse, and they have two adult children - a daughter, MacLean and a son, Frank IV - and one grandchild.





The Rev. Canon Heidi E. Kinner
Vice Dean

Heidi was born in Colorado and grew up in England, where she attended local schools, and the local Church of England parish. She was confirmed by the Bishop of St. Albans in 1983. After high school she moved back to Colorado, graduating from Colorado State University with a B.A. in French and minors in Russian and Political Science.

After graduation Heidi attended U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidate School, receiving a commission as Second Lieutenant in August 1993. Her Military Occupational Specialty was Logistics, and she served with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing in El Toro, California, in that capacity. She was next assigned to the Women's Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, as Operations Officer, Series Commander, and Company Commander. It was during her service at Parris Island that she felt the call to ordained ministry. After she completed the discernment process at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Beaufort, in the Diocese of South Carolina, Bishop Salmon sent her to Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in Wisconsin for her M.Div. Following seminary and ordination, Heidi accepted a call to a mission church in Twentynine Palms, California. She accepted the call to the Cathedral Church of the Advent as Canon Missioner and Advent Episcopal School Chaplain in late 2005. She became Vice Dean in August 2010 upon the retirement of John Harper.

Heidi is married to Major Scott Kinner, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired).



The Rev. Canon Joseph Palmer Warren
Chief Pastor and Director of Pastoral Care and Counseling

Joe Warren is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and he attended high school at the University Military School. He graduated from the University of Alabama Business School in 1970, and was President and CEO of Warren Paper Company from 1970 to 1980. Joe was CEO of Point Clear Petroleum and Land Corporation from 1980 - 1987.

Joe went to Virginia Theological Seminary in 1987 and received his M.Div. in 1990. After ordination he served at Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Dothan, Alabama until 1991, when he accepted a call to be rector of two churches - St. Mary's Church, Fleeton, Virginia, and St. Stephens Church, Heathsville, Virginia. From there he was called in 1996 to his present ministry here at The Advent as Canon Director of Pastoral Care and Counseling. He was awarded his Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in 2001.

Joe and his wife, Susan Lingo Warren, had their first date in the ninth grade; and they have been married since 1968. The Warrens have two daughters and one son - Jennifer Lynn Evans, Meridith Ames Weathers, and Joseph Kellam Warren - and five grandchildren.




The Rev. Canon R. Craig Smalley
Canon Missioner and Advent Episcopal School Chaplain

Craig is a native of Orlando, Florida. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, with a B.A. in 1990. He completed his M.Div. degree at Virginia Theological Seminary in 1995 and was ordained in the Diocese of South Carolina.

Craig served as Curate at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul and Chaplain to St. Alban's Chapel, The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, from 1995 to 1997. He was Associate Rector, Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, from 1997 to 2000. He served at Trinity Church, The Woodlands, Texas, from 2000 to 2001, prior to being called as rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Vestavia Hills, Alabama, where he served through February 2006. He was called to The Advent as Canon for Christian Education and began his ministry here in March, 2006. In August 2010 he became Canon Missioner and Advent Episcopal School Chaplain.

Craig has been married to the former Paula Helen Swartz since 1992. They have three children, Jack, Maizie and Sally.



The Rev. Canon Joseph A. Gibbes
Canon for Christian Education

Joe was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from Wake Forest University in 1996, Joe spent a winter in Breckenridge, Colorado, teaching children how to ski and working in a coffee shop.  He then moved back east, where he spent most of the next six years working at the YMCA in Raleigh, NC running afterschool and Day Camp programs.  

Joe went to Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, in 2003.  During seminary he spent a summer as a pastoral intern at the Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort, South Carolina, under the direction of Frank Limehouse.  He graduated from Trinity in 2006, and has spent four years serving as Associate Rector of St. John's Parish on Johns Island, South Carolina.  Joe joined the Advent clergy staff in June 2010 and became Canon for Christian Education in August 2010.

Joe and his wife Amy have been married since 1998.  They have two children, Caroline and Thomas, and are expecting another boy in September 2010.



The Rev. Katherine Phillips Jacob
Deacon

Kathi is a native of Birmingham and was reared in the Baptist church, the granddaughter of a Baptist minister. She is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, and was confirmed as an Episcopalian in 1972 in San Mateo, California.

Kathi returned to Birmingham in 1979 after the death of her husband, and she has been a member of The Advent since 1982. She has been a realtor, an English teacher, and a director of a non-profit volunteer center. She has served the church as lay reader, altar guild member; chapter member; and diocesan ECW treasurer. Kathi was ordained to the permanent Diaconate in November 2002. She served on the Cathedral staff as Outreach & Missions Coordinator from January 2004 to May 2007, and she is currently engaged in full time graduate studies at Beeson Divinity School.

Kathi enjoys painting, spending time with her grandchildren, and foreign travel. She has three grown daughters and two grandchildren.
